Happy Cinco de Mayo! To shake things up a bit, I wanted to make a yummy tekillya drank that isn't a margarita. Even though I lobbb a good marg, it's always fun to try new flavors. I whipped up a delish take on the Mexican Ofrenda cocktail - this melon-y delishness is the perfect blend of fruity and spicy!Read More
Woohoo St. Patrick's Day! Gotta love a day where the color of choice is green. So obvi I wanted to make a green cocktail to celebrate the day, but I wanted it to still be light and fresh, unlike some other drinks of choice on St. Paddy's (I'm lookin at you, green beer :P).Read More
I've always kinda liked Valentine's Day, my single years included. Growing up I would celebrate with my parents, siblings, and friends with cute cards, lots of candy, and little gifts. In college my friends and I would spend the day together - we'd complain about being single (of course) and how we would be "forever alone" - but looking back we always had so much fun together! Eating pizza, watching movies, drinking cocktails, and laughing our butts off.
I go out to bars often for cocktails, but sometimes it's nice to stay home and make them yourself. This Blueberry Basil Vodka Cocktail is perfect for Galentine's Day, Valentine's Day, or any day in my opinion! It's super easy to make and really yummy too. You could even omit the alcohol for a delish mocktail. I found the original recipe here, and then tweaked it to my liking. My version below!
Blueberry Basil Vodka Cocktail
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup water
⅓ cup fresh blueberries, plus extra for garnish
4 large basil leaves, plus extra for garnish
7 Up (or your fave flavored bubble water)
1. Combine the sugar, water, blueberries, and basil leaves in a small saucepan over low heat. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently, and continue to boil until the blueberries have popped and the sugar is dissolved, around 3 minutes.
2. Remove from heat, transfer to a heat-proof container, and then chill until cold.
3. Fill a Mason Jar with ice, add in three tablespoons of the blueberry-basil syrup, followed by 1½ ounces of vodka (or more if you're feelin' frisky). Fill to top with 7 Up. Garnish with extra blueberries and basil leaves, et voilà!
I buy flowers for myself all the time, so I definitely don't need Eddie to buy them for me haha! It's sweet when he does, of course - but all I'm saying is if you want flowers, get yourself some flowers ;) I found this gorgeous Flower Boy Project bouquet at Burro in Venice. Aren't the colors gorgeous?!
Eddie and I don't go crazy on V-day, we usually celebrate by exchanging small gifts and having a nice dinner - sometimes at a restaurant, sometimes at home. I think the point of the holiday can get away from people sometimes, myself included in the past. Expectations run wild and people end up getting let down. But it's important to remember that no matter what your plans are, if you're spending the day with people you love and who love you back - whether that's family, friends, or a partner - then that's all that really matters. You don't need anyone to buy you chocolate/jewelry/flowers/etc!! Is it nice, yes, of course. But being surrounded by people who care about you beats all those things out by a million.
I hope you all have a wonderful love & laughter filled day!
