Eddie recently surprised me by bringing home a piano he found sitting on the side of the road in our neighborhood (he somehow got it on his two skateboards and rolled it to our house by himself - best surprise EVER). We’ve been spending time over the past few weeks fixing it up and it’s been such a fulfilling project. Judging by the amount of dirt/dust we found inside and out (and how out of tune it was!) we think it’s been sitting in someone’s garage for decades. But we cleaned it up, disinfected it, hired movers to carry it up and down the stairs into our house, had it tuned, and have been giving it a lot of love.

Our bedroom is the room I’ve put the least amount of design effort in since we moved in 2.5 years ago. I think the reasoning behind this is a sort of subconscious knowledge I had that every other room in the house (living, dining, kitchen, guest bedroom/office, bathroom, patio) is frequented by friends and fam who are visiting (although we haven't had visitors since pre-pandemic), whereas the bedroom is a space for only Eddie and I. It may not make much sense to some, but even though the bedroom is probably one of the most important rooms in a home, it’s been mostly put on the back-burner while we focus on spaces that our guests will feel cozy and comfortable in when visiting. Other than a recent dresser restyling sesh a few months back, we haven’t done much to the space. We’ve learned to live with the aspects of the room that bring us no joy - the broken blinds that come crashing down whenever we try to open and close them, the ugly flush mount light over our bed (aka the dreaded boob light), and our two dressers with busted drawers. We’ve procrastinated hanging curtains and kept using our old TV, even though it had a big dark patch in the middle of the screen from broken pixels. Not complaining as I know how privileged we are to call this space home and to have all the things that we do - but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t very much craving a refresh, especially with so much time spent at home these past 6 months. The day finally came when I’d had enough, and decided to start working on the room for real! Wanted to share my process with you as well as my design choices and reasoning behind everything.

My dresser is broken (the drawers are busted beyond repair) and I’ve been telling myself that when I buy a new dresser, I’ll finally style this bedroom wall nicely. But here we are 2 years living in the Hobbit House and I still haven’t bought a new dresser! I have my eye on some beautiful high quality options, but they’re expensive and I simply can’t afford to invest in a big piece of furniture right now. That being said, I decided it was time to stop making excuses when it came to styling this nook. Let’s live in the present! So last week with the help of Eddie, I finally decorated this part of our bedroom.

Our lil cottage came with some really fab built in shelf sitches, and I recently devoted time to restyling one of them! More time at home means more love given to those corners of the house that could use an update. I hadn’t properly styled these shelves since we first moved in two years ago, so we were overdue for a refresh. Sharing my tips for styling the perf plant shelfie!

For the past couple years, our old record player lived on our media console underneath the TV.

I came to the sad realization this year that our Christmas ornaments may be gone for good. Wahhh! Eddie couldn’t find them in our garage last December, and this year I tore the place apart to no avail. I think they may have gotten thrown out by mistake during our move into the Hobbit House! But instead of buying a bunch of new ones, I decided to build on last year’s floral tree and add sunflowers to the mix. One of my fave flowers, they always make me smile :)

One of the questions I’ve been getting a lot recently is “Where did you get that rug?!”

Kitchens are tough, you guys. Especially when you’re renting!

So excited to share with you one of my fave interior projects yet! I had the honor of designing a nursery for a wonderful client of mine, and I’m so happy with how it turned out. Nurseries have got to be one of the greatest rooms to decorate. Not only do you get to be playful and fun with your design choices, but there’s the knowledge that a little baby will be experiencing life and growing in the room you’re creating for them. Such a wonderful feeling! So when my client Nicole Silveira reached out to me with her ideas and hopes for the room, I obvi jumped at the opportunity. Even more exciting to me was the fact that this room wouldn’t be just a nursery, but a guest room as well. I’m very familiar with making rooms work double duty when you live in a small space - just take a look at my own guest bedroom/home office and you’ll see what I mean! So I immediately got to work on creating the most functional, darling joint nursery/guest room I could.

Eeeee the patio is finally complete! It only took the whole summer bahahaha. When we moved from our tiny 1 bedroom apartment to our 2 bedroom home last year, I was so excited about the prospect of having more space for Eddie and I to make use of.

With each change of seasons I love to switch up the decor around the house. This spring’s wildflower super bloom and all the beautiful colors exploding from the earth have really made my heart sing - it’s reinforced my urge to incorporate more color into our neutral living room! I’ve been wanting to invest in a vintage Moroccan rug for years now, and I knew a colorful one would bring the room to life in a fabulous way. I actually started my rug search a few months ago but nothing had been the right size, colors, pattern, or price.

When my dear friend Lindsay Hollinger of Casa Joshua Tree told me she had bought a second house to turn into a full time Airbnb, I knew we were in for some interior magic y’all. Together with her bff and business partner James Burial, they renovated and transformed this 1,200 square foot 3 bedroom home into the ultimate desert retreat, fondly named #ThatDesertHouse. Lindsay and James spent 6 months on renovations and did most of the work themselves - all the time, energy, and love they put into the space really shows.

Our first Christmas in the new house! I’ve been excited to celebrate in our lil Hobbit House all year, and I’ve really been looking forward to having a Christmas tree in the living room. However, I was a little nervous about how we’d make it fit with all our furniture. I also knew I wanted to incorporate florals into the tree, but wanted it to be subtle and easy to decorate - while still fitting in with our current decor. Cue this fab White Rose and Calla Lily Garland. Faux florals already arranged so all I have to do is throw a few on the tree? Yes please! Easy peasy and reusable for future years. I purchased 4 of them and in hindsight, could have actually used 5 or 6 for maximum impact, but I still love how they look! I bought them planning on incorporating our holiday ornaments into the tree as well, but when I sent Eddie into our garage to find them, he came back empty handed. Haaaaa! Oh, Eddie. I didn’t have the energy to go hunting through all the boxes we have in there myself, and I actually really like the simplicity of the garlands alone with the tree lights - so this year’s tree is remaining ornament-less.

A lot of people think that because they live in a small apartment or house, they can’t entertain more than a couple guests at a time. For many small space inhabitants, dinner parties are seemingly out of the question - not enough room at the dining table, if you have a dining table at all. For those of you who’ve been following along here on B&B for a while, you know being dining-roomless was the case for me up until this year. But I’m here to tell you, don’t let small space livin’ discourage you from hosting fab get-togethers! I’m sharing an easy way to host a Friendsgiving or any type of dinner party, whether you have a dining room or not. The answer? Floor seating.

The latest nook we’ve attacked in the hobbit house is our TV wall! It’s been pretty sad looking since we moved in, and was in desperate need of some good vibes styling. We’d been using our old coffee table as the TV stand and a crate to hold my records, but I was ready for something a bit sleeker. I wanted to share with you some tips on beautifying your own TV wall if you’ve been feeling blah about your current sitch, like I was!

Our bathroom redesign is finally complete! From the moment we took a tour of our new place 5 months ago, I started designing in my head how I wanted the bathroom to look. It's been a slow process, but it's finally at a place I'm happy with. I wanted to take you on a little tour of the space and show you the changes we made!

I've wanted a bar cart for a couple years now, but unfortunately we just didn't have the room in our old apartment! When we moved into our new place however, I told myself I would 100% be incorporating a bar cart into the space. So I got to designing, and the above shot is the finished nook :) I wanted to take you through my process of designing this lil space, as well as give you some tips for creating a fun drink zone of your own!

This was the room I was most excited to design in our new home, and I'm so happy with how it turned out! We didn't have a dining table at our old apartment, so being able to entertain family and friends here in the new house has been something I've been looking forward to. I'm so excited to be showing you our new offish redesigned living room! This was an especially fun lil project for me because I didn't buy any new furniture to create this new look - that's right, this is actually the same Ikea sectional we've had for years. A few weeks ago the super talented Elizabeth Wells came over for a viz to our new casa. It was a lazy Sunday morn and she was nice enough to snap some pics of Eddie and I doofin it up! Even though we still have a ways to go in the decorating/design process, I love how Elizabeth captured the spirit of our lil hobbit home. 

One of the things I was most excited about when we moved into our new house was having our own dining room. At our old apartment we ended up selling our dining room furniture and turning that space into Eddie's desk area/the entryway. Truth is, we hardly ever used the space when it was a dining room- and when you're living in 700 square feet you really need to utilize every inch available. We ate almost all our meals in the living room or at the kitchen brekky bar - the dining table just felt too formal for Eddie and I! But now that we're a little older, I've been thinking about how fun it would be to have a proper dining room. I'd love to have our friends over for brunches & dinner parties! (Not that being table-less stopped us from that before - don't forget about our annual Friendsgivings on the floor hehe) I'm pretty sure Eddie and I will still eat most of our dinners together at the coffee table watching TV, but I am super excited to design our new offish dining area.
